The night before Valentine's Day, as I was falling asleep, I had quite a strong series of hypnagogic visions. I can't say they are normally anywhere near as 3D, impressive, lasting and extensive. The impression was that these were coming from Marilyn Manson and his wife Lindsay. At times it seemed from Manson, at times from Lindsay, but it was overall obvious that it was all from them both. The visions involved streaming through countless gorgeous images of strange and eerie yet beautiful looking sweets. Every kind of sweet was represented, from popsicles to cakes, etc etc etc. These were clearly designed to model from the sweets I had been looking at in the instagram discovery page, only in Manson and Lindsay's romantic aesthetic. I have trained my algorithm to provide me with nothing but delectable sweets, and I often watch these reels for relaxing momentary entertainment. Each one was strikingly deluxe quality — just like on instagram — complete of course with layers, drizzles, decorative toppings and often a dramatic dripping or spill of sauce from the candy. The thing that made them aesthetically better than instagram was the weird, almost Salvador Dali inspired forms of design, often resembling strangely extended shape patterns. As well, there were more medieval looking swirls and embellishments. Finally, the quality of style was made to resembled strangely over-sugared and less healthy looking types of sweets that you sometimes see in Asian cafés or markets, which often feature a shiney glossy or hard outer shell. I associated this use of a glossy outer shell with Manson's fascination with serial killers, specifically Jeffrey Dahmer. In the series DAHMER, there is a scene in which he sees a psychiatrist in prison, who advises him that his sexual fascination with human organs roots from a human brain response which associates shiny things that seem wet with sex, due to the way this is associated with wet genitalia. I'm sure it seemed like a reference to that. I liked how it was considered a less healthy kind of sweet this way, so as to inspire interest in the fact that perhaps these shiny surfaces are related to high risk psychologies — something which I suppose Manson and Lindsay might find compelling. On that subtle psychological level, that interests me as to why I always found swimsuit magazine babes covered in water to be a cheesy look.
