Grouped into 8 thematic groups of 8 (8 x 8 = 64), the 64 CARDS form a visionary map of ecological strategy. These '8 SEALS' offer deeper structure and inspiration for study, storytelling, and curriculum building. This is just an example of how you can create your own card groupings, with your own customized themes. Your card groupings can be about any topic at all, and they do not have to involve 8 groups of 8.
By remodelling the entire educational process to reflect these ecological strategies even as it teaches them (or uses them to teach other subjects) ecological education has reached a visionary level through these 64 CARDS. While all the cards are about this, these 8 cards are the most fundamentally relevant to the educational theme of how exactly to use these cards and what their regular use tends to foster.

Although the urban environment is considered the opposite of nature, including it within our concept of the ecology is necessary in order to restore, remediate, integrate and heal these challenging spaces. The study of universally relevant strategies of nature brings us from the macro to the micro, to DNA and biology, a topic which is not well understood by science when it comes to how genetics are affected by the outside environment. Ecology is the study of how life forms and places interact with each other and work together as a system. Through the lens of ecological strategy, DNA teaches and is better understood.

When defining large groupings of people on a huge scale, “Society” is the structuring of definition, like shared territory, systems of relating, or institutions. “Culture” is the common beliefs, values, customs, symbols and practices of those defined groups. Although this is a very broad topic, these cards are a poingnant statement about it with a focus on the most ecologically oriented and important / helpful strategies.

The original prototype for The 64 CARDS ◊ Ecological Strategies for All Ages & Abilities was developed in 2017. While the final system has been complete and available for many years, this page marks the first time the prototype itself is being publicly documented. In time, this space will be expanded to include deeper reflections on the development and long-term significance of the work.
This 6 min video captures a beautiful 5-month public display of the 64 CARDS (alongside the UNITY LIFE COLORING BOOK) at SunnyCrest Mall in Gibsons, BC, Canada, complete with an incredibly fascinating story behind how this came to manifest, during an earlier chapter when the project carried the GAIACRAFT name. Though I’ve since fully rebranded under UNITY LIFE Mystery School and now use the term Visionary Ecology rather than Permaculture, this installation remains a monumentally historic and powerfully beautiful chapter of the story.
