THE OLD LIGHT SCIENCE WEBSITE WAS ARCHIVED BY AN ANONYMOUS SUPPORTER

Old Light Science digital art finally recovered through the making of this post (after being lost for a long time).

The logo above is for Light Science — the previous name for what is now UNITY LIFE Mystery School, and the website used to be lightscience.ca (which had this beautiful mandala on the home page). I don't know if I recall exactly when Light Science began — perhaps 2005, I'm not sure. Regardless, when it made the shift into UNITY LIFE and a new website was created in 2015, money was short. The new UNITY LIFE website was on a free version of a website platform but with such a low budget, I was not able to maintain the lightscience.ca domain name to retain the record of the old website and all that it used to contain.

For years I assumed that all the content on the lightscience.ca website was lost, until years later in 2021 I found out that a good samaritan had actually made a full and complete backup of the old website, and done the service of putting it back up online. The only thing missing was the previous YouTubes that were embedded from it, because I had deleted old outdated YouTubes off that platform. I sure wish I hadn't deleted them now, as looking back on my old work has so much more value to me today. Regardless, it was magical to see the website up with all the pages and writing that I had put there.

The only thing that was different about the website was that there was the occasional banner ad added in for memorial benches which went nowhere if you click on them. These are shown in a later slideshow in this post. This immediately flashed me to the famous memorial bench to Kurt Cobain which lives at the park near his old house — a place where fans often go to leave flowers, notes and sweet gifts to his memory. This new site at lightscience.ca was a sweet memorial to my old website. I wondered, was it really a memorial bench company that had somehow (years ago before the domain was lost) collected the website code and saved it for later to one day use as content to advertise their banners? This made no sense if the banners go nowhere when you click on them. They were also not that prominent. There were only a few minor sidebars throughout.

I wondered then if someone out there really cared about me and wanted to archive the material I was putting out into the world.

I collected only very few screenshots of much of the old materials that were up there (including the memorial benches ads). There were many beautiful things to see, but all of these, I felt, could be re-created as newer and more up to date versions of my art in a better form, so not much was captured. What else was captured was had been temporarily misplaced in my phone until today — and I now wish I had captured the rest of it just for archival purposes. This overall impression not to save everything from it corresponded with the rebranding of the project into a new name and special new approach. However, one thing I thought I'd like to post to my personal instagram as a piece of history was my old bio, which had been written for me by my ex-associate Delvin Solkinson. I found it interesting to contemplate the way it was written. This was inspiring me in how I would present myself and my portfolio in the future. So, I saved screenshots of that. Here they are :)

The screenshots of the old website and the old bio as it was reposted to instagram are all here in this slideshow. Below is the old footer. It included a previous version of the Light Science logo which at the time was associated with my new media design business. Before you proceed to the footer, here's a nicer version of that logo for your viewing pleasure :

As I've implied so far, this archival support was only temporary. About a year later I returned to lightscience.ca and it was once again gone. I often dream and wonder about the mysterious good samaritan and UNITY LIFE / Light Science angel who did this. What were their motives? Who were they? This is now one of the mysteries of UNITY LIFE Mystery School.
