Vega One and Vega Sport are the two most important foods in my life, and without them my health has always suffered a lot — and I really think other people should consider it. Vega One specifically, because of all the amazing nutrients in it, has been the most essential companion for me. But both have been crucial because of the low calorie protein which allows so much more flexibility and stability in food choices in the day.
A lot of my friends know all about it, and they wish they were eating it daily, yet they simply don't feel like paying $72 CAD for one jar of it, and I feel the same way. Which is why I am writing this — to let you know that there's at least one store in Vancouver that sells it for under $50 for either kind. And that shows you how much they are racking up the prices at regular stores. It's the health food grocery near Commercial & Broadway, just a little further down towards 1st Ave, which has changed names (used to be Donald's Market, then Village City Market, now I forget the name).
Essentially, getting enough protein is really hard. It's absolutely necessary to seek low calorie protein sources if we are to meet the guidelines of what our body needs, which these days is set much higher than it was, say back in 2000, because nutritional science has developed. If we don't get protein in a low calorie source, we are much less free in what kinds of diversity will be on our plate. Also Vega One makes supplementing fibre, greens and essential fatty acids much more optimized for the price.
Vega Sport doesn't have the same nutrients, but it is a nice way to get even more protein. Everyone should research how much protein their body needs. It will vary by your weight and some factors, also if you are muscle building. For me, a thin woman who isn't trying to build muscle, I need 80g of protein a day. Most people don't even touch that in their daily diet and that's very scary to think of how badly their health suffers as a result. Also being forced to eat meat is just wrong, when there are major ethical concerns with most meats and animal products these days, not to mention health risks.
Also, another tip along with this : If you're like me and your digestive system can't process too much Vega (I myself can only have a couple scoops a day), then I just thought I'd share that I'm also eating protein waffles now, just a low calorie kind which offers 13g of protein per 1/2 cup which is so good, and that's only with 200 calories. And adding that, my digestive system can handle it without rebuttal, so it's comforting to know that I can get so much protein with so few calories.
Here's a photo of my waffles : This meal is only 200 calories. It's just a pretty run of the mill lower calorie waffle mix advertised as protein waffles. It's not organic but certainly, look into the options according to budget if this interests you, but just know the calories drastically vary with these mixes, brand to brand.
This has stevia in the form of icing sugar powder (zero calorie) instead of sugar, and this syrup is actually zero calorie made with sucralose. And I understand, sucralose has a bad name for being linked with cancer — so word to the wise, do your research about how much is a safe consumption limit if you follow my example.
It's when you eat ridiculous amounts of sucralose when it gets a bit bad for you or actually dangerous. Some people on extreme diets start to crave sucralose and eat it by the barrel practically because it technicaly has a tiny bit of carbs in it, which causes cravings for it. So just a normal amount — it's actually effortless within "normal" realm of consumption to stay within the limits, but you should keep your eye on that.
