Provisional Corruption

Provisional Corruption may be termed with various adjectives depending on the severity of this type of corruption. The least severe cases may include Pseudo, Quasi, Functional or Derivative Corruption. More severe cases might be called Contingent Corruption or Transitional Corruption. I've settled on Provisional as a central adjective in order to lean a bit on the serious side.

Corruption is most often seen as a human quality, but in order to describe the condition I'm speaking of, take a glass of water as a metaphor :

Imagine that a glass of otherwise pure water has been corrupted with poison added to it. But this is no regular water — it contains within it an unseen power. At some later stage, due to this special power, the poison will be completely rejected from the water through an extraordinary transformative process, and the water will become a special type of medicine that you can then drink cleanse you of toxins much more powerfully than regular water (but this only works after it's rejected the poison). From the perspective of its ultimate state, someone could therefore object to calling the water corrupted at all : “That water isn't corrupted — not ultimately — as it has a special power and future.”

And yet, if the immediate question is “Should I drink this water now?”, its ultimate destiny is beside the point. The water presently contains poison. Drinking it now will make you sick. You should wait until the poison has been rejected.

It would therefore become impractical to refuse to call the water corrupted simply because corruption does not describe its deepest nature or eventual condition. The larger story may indeed be more important : the poison will be overcome, the water will be transformed, and its corrupted state will ultimately appear to have been only one stage within a much greater process. But that larger truth does not invalidate the smaller, immediate truth.

The water is genuinely corrupted while the poison remains within it, but its corruption is provisional rather than ultimate.

Provisional Corruption therefore describes a condition which is real and consequential at the level where it presently exists, while not being essential, permanent, or definitive of the thing itself. Something can require avoidance now, even if a larger process will eventually reveal that corruption to have been transitional rather than final.
