The Tobacco Sanctuary

In October 2022 I started a 6 year auto loan for my 1982 GMC Citation motorhome, which I call The Tobacco Sanctuary. 1982 is my birth year so it is themed in celebration of my life. When I was homeless from 2017 - 2021, I always thought I should buy one so that I would always have a roof over my head or at least a place to store my stuff if ever again I became financially unstable. But in later years — assuming my life would be headed on the upswing and I would not again be homeless — I decided it would be kept forever as a symbol of self-preservation and a beautiful work of art for self-healing the negative past experience of homelessness.

Does It Drive? What Condition Is It In Mechanically?

I don't think there's anything wrong with the motor although it stopped working once cause of a dead battery and I worried a little that I was trying to start it perhaps when the oil was too low, but I don't think that happened. But I don't know how to check the oil levels really on it well, cause I don't really know how to read it or it's not showing clearly. Also, I can't get into the hood to charge the battery. I understaand there is a lever which does unlock the hood latch and that works, but then something else is blocking it and I can't figure it out. So someday it will need to be towed to the mechanic. Aside from that, it just has obvious need for an overall tune up, and I know there is a coolant leak. And likely needs tires replaced. I'm hoping to pour money into mechanic and stuff after it's paid off.

What Do You Use It For Right Now?

It remains parked always in my parking spot, where I use it as a sacred space to smoke Mapacho medicine tobacco (which is of course not allowed in the apartment). I also use it as a storage space which helps a lot when my apartment is so tiny. It's also a garden shed, and a place to process my harvest from the garden into tea, and I often dry big bushels of tea in there. It definitely serves as a cozy lounge. And also as a guest cabin during warm months. I don't have enough circuit to have the heater on for a guest and in my apartment at the same time, but when there's no need for heat, it can be a pad for a friend. I now have the built in toilet set up with compostable bags in the bowl which you can just tie and throw out into the building compost or garbage right next to it in the back. I tested those bags and they don't leak at all with liquid for many weeks, which is much longer than needed. Technically if the power was working, you could have a shower in there and there is capability for a propane heater shower but the propane system is so tricky to use, cause it's very old. I've seen it work though. The water pumps in from a garden hose which fills the tank. But I don't like to use it because the water pump is sadly only powered by the car battery now that the solar has died. The solar broke shortly after I bought it. That's the most expensive thing that needs fixing. It's like $10,000. But it's on electricity from an extension cord to my apartment. The power's included in the rent, so no worries, but I don't use much lights in there.
