Tangible Art

These handmade works represent the longest span of personal history in my life of all my artistic genres. Drawing was always a part of my life since my very young years, and as a small child I dreamed of being an artist - making the childlike assumption that drawings or paintings would be the only media which describes this cultural role. Later, of course, I diversified in tangible media.

Handmade Ornaments Made with Smoked Salmon Backing

( 2025 - 2026 )

Currently, I'm working on a new series of gold ornaments designed to illustrate my ideas, such as those in The UNITY LIFE Archive. The medium is the backing which comes with smoked salmon, as you see here. It is cardboard with gold foil. Originally, the reason why I saved this material for art projects was because of the mention of fish in FACET 1(73) ◊ ORIGINAL  of The 72 FACETS (IN 144), as explained here :

NIRVANA Lyrics About Fish (re: Water, Chemicals & Perfume)

Throughout the NIRVANA discography, in which a huge overaching theme is that of water (especially in NEVERMIND) chemicals are carefully investigated in the lyrics (especially in the debut album BLEACH) showing distinction and clear sensitivity against ecologically harmful, synthetic chemicals such as bleach or those found in commercial perfumes (I mention perfumes because water — a common theme in their work — is symbolic of perfume). This sensitivity against chemicals includes complex chain reactions of their damaging effects, as opposed to alcohol as a biodegradable and non-toxic chemical.

Now, the discography is rich with concern about chemicals in the water and health of the ecology and water table, as this is the key to the survival of the fish population, but especially their safety for human consumption (food security). In Mexican Seafood, for example, this was issue was expanded on by addressing human-waste management crisis in third world countries (which Mexico was at the time of the song release), clarifying how sickness can result from eating seafood which was contaminated this way. This was emphasized in the song Hairspray Queen from the album INCESTICIDE with the lyric "A fish full of garbage".

Fish as The Main Food In Ayahuasca Vegetalismo Tradition

Vegetalismo is the central practice of Ayahuasca psychedelic plant medicine tradition of the ancient Shipibo-Conibo medicine culture of Peru. Although many traditions are important, none of them can be practiced without Vegetalismo. The term is commonly called Ayahuasca dieta. It is a meditative spiritual retreat involving very limited diet, typically allowing only fish as the one protein source when 'master plants' are integrated with the practice.

'Master plants' of the Ayahuasca traditions — non-psychedelic plants aside from Ayahuasca which are consumed at the beginning of some dietas — are absolutely essential to the tradtional process of becoming a facilitator of Ayahuasca ceremonies. The addition of master plants will change the length of time of the practice and the timing of when and how much Ayahuasca ceremonies occur. Therefore, without food security of fish availability, all Ayahuasca traditions would become equally insecure or threatened.

Kurt Cobain's Astrological Sign ◊ Pisces

In the hit single Heart Shaped Box, Kurt Cobain makes reference to his astrological sign, Pisces, in the lyrics "She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak". The mention of weakness is reminiscent of the physical and emotional weakness often experienced during Vegetalismo practice, due to fasting. Ideally, a Vegetalista will only eat the type of rare fish which is vegetarian, which connects so well with the song Something In The Way.

Something In The Way contemplates the psychology of vegetarianism, also in such a way which reflects the long intensive periods of isolation which are core to Vegetalista dieta practice.

In a certain ancient style of Vegetalismo which is done deeper in the Amazon jungle, the only water available is the drippings from the canopy, similar to the description in this song ("drippings from the cieling"). And the vegetarian fish is chosen for Vegetalismo because of its feelings as a less aggressive fish - the vegetarian human-psychology described in the song. This all ties in beautifully with Kurt's Pisces sign which is a water sign, related to emotion.

However, when the art projects began to happen, it was interesting to note that new significance of the fish came to light : The ornaments were all crosses, which just so happened to be the type of imagery I need to illustrate my ideas — and crosses typically symbolize Jesus Christ, whose other symbol is known as a fish (as illustrated by this book).

Ayahuasca Symbols

( 2007 - 2012 )

The first image in the carousel above (on mobile) and at left (desktop) is my own painting done in acrylic on canvas, in 2007. In following years after painting this, I was inspired in a long series of similar symbols with the same intentions, which were in pencil in my sketchbook, along with poetry. Sadly, the sketchbook was lost. However, this one master symbol was extremely potent as the germinal beginnings of years of exploration. This image was produced during an Ayahuasca dieta practice — a Shipibo-Conibo Peruvian healing tradition of fasting and meditation, designed for connection with Amazonian master plant teachers. This deep, meditative process is called Vegetalismo. In this time, all outside distractions such as phones and devices, or any socializing with others is completely removed, in favour of going within. Influenced by the medicine, I brought through this symbol to represent the subtle energies of the plant teachers. The following images are two different paintings on a handmade box, all created by my Dad, Lee as a tribute to my work. He did this in 2024, inspired by my gifting him with the original painting in 2017. In thanks for his support, I'm returning the tribute by including his work in this gallery.

KOSHURE ◊ Handmade Zines

( 1992 - 2005 )

For so many years, spanning from age 12 or 13 to perhaps around 23 I was creating a handmade zine called KOSHURE. The zine started in full scale, as a normal mulit-page little magazine with around 20 pages, regularly put out every month or two, and sold for $2. At the time I was not really paying for photocopies, cause I was scoring them free at some places. Eventually, due to budget cuts, it minimized into this MINI KOSHURE version, which was just a single letter sized paper folded 4 ways, and sold for a suggested donation of $1 or in trade for cigarettes (or free). Long term subscriptions were available.
